Rajasthan News— Rajasthan is set to become the hub for high-speed train trials in India, with the construction of the world’s first dedicated high-speed train trial track. The first such track in the country is being developed near Navan City Railway Station in the Jodhpur railway division.
Progress and Features of the Trial Track
As of now, 27 kilometers of the 64-kilometer-long track have been completed. This advanced track will be equipped with state-of-the-art instruments, enabling trials at speeds of up to 220 kilometers per hour. The track is being designed with curves, bridges, and challenging sections to test trains from every conceivable angle.
Shashi Kiran, the Chief Public Relations Officer of North Western Railway, stated that the entire project is expected to be completed by December 2025, with an estimated cost of INR 820 crore. Once finished, this will be the longest high-speed train trial track in the world.
Comprehensive Testing Facility
The track will be used for testing all high-speed and semi-high-speed trains, including the Vande Bharat Express. In addition to locomotive and coach testing, the track will also facilitate trials for high-speed axle load wagons.
Approximately 34 small bridges are being constructed along the track, with most of the work already completed. Additionally, 8 railway underpasses are being built, of which five are finished. The 27-kilometer main line is already laid, and the track will feature several loops, including a 13-kilometer loop from Gudha, a 3-kilometer quick testing loop at Navan, and a 20-kilometer work testing loop at Mishri. Inspired by similar facilities in the USA and Australia, this track will allow for comprehensive testing at speeds of up to 220 kilometers per hour.
Equipped with Advanced Instruments
The trial track will be outfitted with advanced railway signaling systems and other high-tech instruments. By December 2025, all construction is expected to be completed, making Rajasthan the primary location for testing all high-speed and semi-high-speed trains in India. The state was specifically chosen for this project due to its suitable geography and infrastructure capabilities.
This development marks a significant milestone in India's railway sector, aiming to enhance the efficiency and safety of high-speed rail travel across the country.
